L'Atelier de L’Arsenal

Place Mazas, Paris, France

Winner of the “Réinventer la Seine” project call for proposals on the Place Mazas site, the Atelier de l’Arsenal aims to revive the connection between pedestrians and the Seine. Currently unoccupied, the project proposes to enhance this exceptional site in the heart of Paris. The Atelier de l’Arsenal is entirely constructed with a wooden structure. It consists of an innovative and supportive co-living building and the Atelier, a third space combining culture, integration, and making, including a modular performance hall, co-working space, machine workshop, concierge service, and exhibition space.

By creating new horizontal and vertical circulation paths and opening an access to the Bassin de l’Arsenal, Place Mazas will become a new public space.

After twelve years, if the City and its inhabitants see new destinations for the Mazas site, they can be implemented without delay, thanks to the fully removable structure.

On different levels, the project will bring it to life: the canal beach with a pool and refreshment stand will animate the Bassin, the belvedere over the canal, the Ecluse square, and the restaurant will activate the street, while the Atelier terrace will offer unique views of the Seine, Notre-Dame, and the Jardin des Plantes.
